About the faculty
Education holds an exceptional place in society. People and the ways in which they think are shaped in formal and informal settings alike. This often has crucial significance for the focus of one’s career path.
The Faculty of Educational Sciences at Uppsala University is responsible for education and research in educational sciences. The faculty’s departments provide courses and programmes at the first and second-cycle levels in the fields of child and adolescent science, didactics, education, educational leadership, special needs education and sociology of education.
One of the faculty’s departments is responsible for the education of school leaders within the framework of the National Head Teacher Training Programme (Rektorsprogrammet). The faculty is also responsible for graduate education in didactics, education, and the sociology of education.
The various teacher education programmes comprise the faculty’s largest educational task. In order to make use of the unique subject breadth and expertise at Uppsala University, teacher education programmes are organised to emphasise the focus of student teachers on their subject studies in the respective department. In practice, this means that the faculty has a comprehensive operation throughout all of Uppsala University.
Some twenty departments participate in the teacher education programmes. The teacher education programmes also encompass a large network with the surrounding municipalities and offer student teachers education via school placement, as well as collaboration in educational issues.
